Paris is beautiful from the river by day. Paris by night is the reason people remember the cruise. After dark the quays, the long façade of the Louvre and the bridges are lit, and at the start of every hour the Eiffel Tower sparkles for about five minutes. An evening cruise is the same hour on the water, timed for the best of it.

The catch is that “evening cruise” on a ticket often just means a later departure of the standard boat. Below we separate the boats that are actually built for the evening, with a drink, music or a smaller boat, from the ones that simply sail later. Then we tell you when to board so you pass the tower on the hour.

How to time a night cruise

01

Board around sunset

Leave at sunset and you get the last light, then the lights coming on. In 2026, sunset falls around 5:12pm in mid-November, 4:56pm in mid-December and 5:23pm in mid-January.

02

Pass the tower on the hour

After dark, the Eiffel Tower sparkles for about five minutes at the start of every hour. Official pages disagree on the last one: plan on around 11pm, later in summer.

03

Remember the clock change

Clocks go back on October 25, 2026, and sunsets move about an hour earlier overnight. A 7pm departure is twilight in early October and full night in November.

04

Winter is the sweet spot

With darkness before 5:30pm from November to January, a 6pm cruise is a night cruise, and you are back on land in time for dinner.

05

In summer, go late

Mid-June sunset is around 9:58pm, and July’s is around 9:52pm. Book one of the last departures of the day if you want the illuminations.

06

Dress for the open deck

The upper deck is where the photos are, and it is colder than the street. In December the average Paris high is 8°C (46°F) and the low 3.8°C (39°F).

Which evening cruise is right for you

A drink at sunset

France Tourisme’s sunset and evening cruise leaves from the Vedettes du Pont Neuf pier on the Square du Vert-Galant, in the middle of the city. One drink is included (wine, Champagne or a soft drink), there is a bar and a restroom on board, and blankets come out on cooler evenings. The commentary is an app, not a person, which on an evening cruise is no great loss: you are there for the view.

The cheapest evening hour

Vedettes de Paris runs an evening hour on a 100% electric boat from Port de Suffren, below the Eiffel Tower, with the captain’s music playlist and an audio-guide app (bring your own headphones). A drink is included only if you choose a drink option, and you collect it at the bar. Its reviews are mixed, but it is the least expensive way onto the water near the tower after dark.

The famous name, with Champagne

Bateaux Mouches’ Champagne version is its standard sightseeing cruise plus a 20 cl mini-bottle of Champagne, collected at the gift shop. To be straight with you, its reviews are the weakest in this comparison. The ticket is not tied to a time, so if you book it, pick one of the late departures: in winter Bateaux Mouches sails every 30 minutes from 4pm until 9:30pm. It is for adults only, with a maximum of two per booking.

A boat of your own

The private Champagne cruise is the one to book for a proposal, an anniversary or a family who wants the river to themselves. French Champagne and water are included. The smallest boat takes up to four people, with a total weight limit of 280 kg and no table. Groups of six to eight book the larger boats. Late arrivals shorten the cruise, and the operator advises against it for anyone with walking or back problems.

By bike, then by boat

The City of Lights tour is five hours: a guided ride past the lit monuments, then a Seine cruise with the ticket included. It is in English only, for ages 13 and up. For active travelers it is the best evening in Paris for the money.

Want dinner too?

A dinner cruise is a different booking: two hours or more, a set menu, and often a dress code. The classic leaves from the foot of the Eiffel Tower at 8:30pm:

Evening cruises in the Christmas season

From late November the evening river gets competition from the streets. The Notre-Dame Christmas market on the Square René-Viviani runs from November 26 to December 27, 2026, a short walk from the Vedettes du Pont Neuf pier, and the Champs-Élysées lights are expected to go on in late November. A 5pm cruise followed by a lights walk makes an easy winter evening:

Seasonal tours run only a few weeks a year, so they have fewer reviews than the year-round cruises. For market dates and locations, see our Paris Christmas markets guide. For what is open on December 24, 25 and 31, see Paris in December.

Questions travelers ask

What time do evening Seine cruises leave?

It depends on the operator and the season. Bateaux Mouches sails every 30 minutes from 4pm until 9:30pm in winter, and until 10pm from April to October. Dinner cruises usually board for departures around 6pm or 8:30pm.

When is the best time for a Seine cruise at night?

Just after sunset. In 2026 that is around 5:12pm in mid-November, 4:56pm in mid-December, and 9:58pm in mid-June. Time your departure so you pass the Eiffel Tower at the start of an hour, when it sparkles.

Does the Eiffel Tower sparkle every hour?

Yes. After dark it sparkles for about five minutes at the start of every hour. Official pages give different end times, so plan on the last sparkle around 11pm, later in summer.

Are drinks included on evening Seine cruises?

Only where the option says so. The France Tourisme sunset cruise includes one glass of wine, Champagne or a soft drink. The Vedettes de Paris evening cruise includes a drink only on its drink options. The Bateaux Mouches Champagne cruise includes a 20 cl mini-bottle for adults.

Is a private Seine cruise worth it?

For a proposal, an anniversary or a small family, yes. It is the highest-rated cruise in our comparison. The from-price is the smallest boat, for up to four people with no table; larger boats cost more.

Is it cold on the Seine at night?

In winter, yes. December averages a high of 8°C (46°F) and a low of 3.8°C (39°F), and the open deck feels colder. Bring a warm layer. Some boats, like the France Tourisme evening cruise, hand out blankets.
