The Eiffel Tower sells four kinds of ticket, and the only official seller of single tickets is the tower itself, at ticket.toureiffel.paris. An adult pays €14.80 to walk to the second floor, €23.50 to ride the lift there, and €36.70 to ride all the way to the summit, 276 meters up. Online and ticket-office prices are the same; the difference is that online time slots sell out, the summit first.

So the real decision is not which ticket but how you want to go up: on your own with a timed slot, on foot, or with a guide who handles the entry and explains what you are looking at. Below are the official prices, then every guided option we could verify, compared.

N° 03Choosing

Summit or second floor?

For most people the second floor is the better view. At roughly 115 meters you still see Paris as a city: the Seine bridges, the dome of Les Invalides, Sacré-Cœur on its hill, the zinc rooftops street by street. From the summit, at 276 meters, the city flattens into a map. That is thrilling, and it is the photo people want, but it is a different kind of view rather than a better one.

Go to the summit if it is your one visit and the bragging rights matter, or if you want a glass of Champagne at the bar up there. Skip it if you are short on time, traveling with small children, or visiting on a hazy day. Our Eiffel Tower summit guide covers the summit in detail, including the tours that guarantee it.

The stairs

The stairs go to the second floor only: 674 steps through the ironwork, past the glass floor on the first level at 57 meters. It is the cheapest ticket and, for anyone reasonably fit, the most memorable way up. If you want the summit too, the stairs-plus-lift ticket costs €28.00, and the final stretch is always by lift; the upper staircase is closed to the public.

N° 04Timing

When to book, and when to just show up

The tower says lift tickets, including the summit, go on sale online about 90 days ahead, and stairs tickets about 60 days ahead. Summit slots are the first to go, often on the day they are released, so if the summit matters to you, book as soon as your dates are fixed.

If you are traveling alone or as a couple and are flexible, you can still buy same-day tickets at the ticket office. One change for 2026: since September 29, 2026, ticket offices no longer sell to groups of more than nine people, who must book online.

  • Busiest periods: French school holidays, including October 17 to November 2, 2026 and December 19, 2026 to January 4, 2027.
  • January: the summit usually closes for annual maintenance. In 2026 it was shut from January 5 to February 6. The 2027 dates have not been announced, so check before you book a summit ticket for January.
  • Beware of copycat sites: the tower warns that sites other than ticket.toureiffel.paris selling single tickets may be fraudulent. Guided tours sold through licensed operators are a separate product, compared below.

Every guided Eiffel Tower tour, compared

Guided tours cost more than the official ticket because they bundle a reserved entry slot with a guide. On many of them the summit is an add-on at checkout, so check the option you pick. Prices shown are the lowest listed option.

Epic Tours holds its rating most consistently across the sites we could verify (spread 0.01).

The widest gap is Madame Brasserie: 4.40 on Tripadvisor versus 4.10 on Google (spread 0.30).

Checked October 20, 2026. Tripadvisor and Google figures are the operator’s own listings, which pool reviews of all its tours, so they measure the company rather than this exact product. Spread is the highest minus the lowest rating shown.

N° 07Bon à savoir

Before you go

01

Leave the big bag at the hotel

There are two security checks, and oversized luggage is refused. There are no lockers or left-luggage at or near the tower. Pocket knives are banned too.

02

Go up around dusk

The golden lights come on at nightfall, and the tower sparkles for about five minutes at the start of each hour after dark, with the last sparkle around 11pm (later in summer). Paris sunsets fall around 5pm in November and December.

03

Know the last lift

Official pages give the last summit ascent as 10:30pm in some places and 10:45pm in others, and visitors are asked to leave the summit 45 minutes before closing. Book an earlier slot if the summit is the point.

04

Check the wind

In high winds the summit, or even the whole tower, can close, and it may also close in snow or ice. A guided tour’s cancellation policy matters more here than its price.

05

Champagne at the top

The summit has a Champagne bar. Its current menu lists a 12 cl glass of Moët & Chandon Impérial at €24, or you can buy the summit-plus-Champagne ticket (€60.70 adult).

06

Eat at the tower

Madame Brasserie (Thierry Marx) is on the first floor, and Le Jules Verne (Frédéric Anton, two Michelin stars) is on the second. Jules Verne opens bookings 90 days ahead.

N° 08Same evening

Pair it with a Seine cruise

Two of the big Seine operators board at the foot of the tower, Bateaux Parisiens at Port de la Bourdonnais and Vedettes de Paris at Port de Suffren, so a tower visit and a cruise fit into one evening without a métro ride. Several tours above include an optional cruise ticket. If you would rather make a night of it, the Bateaux Parisiens dinner cruise leaves from the same dock:

Questions travelers ask

How much are Eiffel Tower tickets in 2026?

For adults (25 and over): €36.70 by lift to the summit, €23.50 by lift to the second floor, €28.00 by stairs to the second floor then lift to the summit, and €14.80 by stairs to the second floor. Youth (12–24) pay about half, and children 4–11 about a quarter. These rates apply to visits until January 10, 2027.

Is the Eiffel Tower summit worth it?

If it is your only visit and you want the classic top-of-the-tower photo, yes. For the best view of Paris as a city, the second floor is arguably better and costs €13.20 less by lift. See our summit guide for the details.

Can you buy Eiffel Tower tickets on the day?

Yes, individuals can still buy same-day tickets at the ticket office, at the same price as online. Summit access can sell out, and since September 29, 2026, groups of more than nine people must book online.

How far in advance should I book Eiffel Tower tickets?

As soon as your dates are fixed if you want the summit. Lift tickets go on sale about 90 days ahead and stairs tickets about 60 days ahead, and summit slots are the first to sell out.

Can you walk up to the top of the Eiffel Tower?

Only to the second floor: 674 steps. The staircase from the second floor to the summit is closed to the public, so the last stretch is always by lift.

Is a guided Eiffel Tower tour worth the extra cost?

It is worth it if you cannot get the time slot you want on the official site, or if you want the story behind the structure. Expect to pay more than the official ticket for the reserved slot and the guide. On many tours the summit is an add-on, so check the option before you pay.

Is the Eiffel Tower open on Christmas Day?

Yes. The tower is open every day of the year, including December 25 and January 1, but it closes early on December 31. See Paris in December for what else is open.
