Bateaux Mouches and Bateaux Parisiens are the two names everyone knows, and on paper their classic one-hour cruises are close to interchangeable: the same river, about the same length, similar prices. The differences that matter are where you board, how the commentary works, and what the evening dinner cruises ask of you. Here is the head-to-head, plus the two smaller operators we often book instead. For every boat side by side, see our Seine river cruise guide.
The short answer
- Pick Bateaux Parisiens if the cruise goes with an Eiffel Tower visit. It boards at Port de la Bourdonnais, directly below the tower.
- Pick Bateaux Mouches if you are staying on the Right Bank or want a ticket you can use whenever the light looks right. It boards by the Pont de l’Alma, and its Viator ticket has no set date or time.
- Pick neither if a live guide matters more than the brand. Vedettes du Pont Neuf and Vedettes de Paris both run one-hour cruises with live commentary.
Where you board
Bateaux Mouches leaves from Port de la Conférence, by the Pont de l’Alma on the Right Bank, in the 8th arrondissement. Bateaux Parisiens leaves from Port de la Bourdonnais on the Left Bank, at the foot of the Eiffel Tower in the 7th. The two piers are within walking distance of each other along the river, but the choice still shapes your day: Bateaux Parisiens slots neatly before or after a tower visit (our Eiffel Tower tickets guide covers timing), while Bateaux Mouches suits an afternoon on the Champs-Élysées side of the river.
The boats and the commentary
Bateaux Parisiens sails a heated and air-conditioned trimaran with a top terrace. Commentary comes in 14 languages, through an on-board audio guide or your smartphone, and the listing promises a guide on board to answer questions rather than a narrator for the whole hour.

Bateaux Mouches boats have a main deck with large windows and an open upper deck. Commentary is through a free web app in 12 languages, with GPS tracking so it keeps pace with the boat. In practice that means bringing your phone and a pair of headphones if you want the story with the view. The cruise is non-stop and returns to the same pier after about an hour.

Schedules and the best hour to go
Bateaux Mouches publishes the clearer timetable. From November to March, boats leave every 45 minutes from 10:15am to 9:30pm, every 30 minutes from 4pm, with an extra 10pm departure in school holidays. From April to October they run every 30 minutes from 10am to 10pm. Bateaux Parisiens sells an open ticket for your chosen date, so you can take any departure that day, with the first listed at 10am.
Whichever you pick, aim for dusk. After the clocks change on October 25, 2026, Paris sunsets fall around 5:10pm in mid-November and just before 5pm in mid-December, so a late-afternoon boat gives you the city in daylight on the way out and the lights coming on as you return. Our guide to evening and night cruises goes further, including the Eiffel Tower’s hourly sparkle.
Prices: direct versus booking ahead
Both operators sell tickets on their own websites, and Bateaux Mouches charges less online than at the pier. As of October 2026:
- Bateaux Mouches: €20 for adults at the pier, or €17 on the official website. Children aged 4 to 12 pay €10, or €8 online, and under-4s ride free.
- Bateaux Parisiens: the operator’s site lists €18 for adults and €9 for children online.
If you know your exact day, the operators’ own web prices are hard to beat. If your plans might change, a ticket with free cancellation up to 24 hours ahead is worth a small premium. Both Viator tickets above are refundable on those terms, and the current price shows on each card.
Ratings: why both score below four stars
As of October 2026, both classic cruises sit below four stars on Viator, each from hundreds or thousands of reviews. That is lower than most of the Paris tours we compare. The view is the same from any boat on the Seine, so we treat the brand as the least important part of the decision. Choose by pier, by time of day, and by whether you want a live guide.
Dinner cruises: where they really differ
For dinner, the two companies are more distinct. Both run a flagship 8:30pm dinner cruise:
- Bateaux Mouches boards from 7:30pm, sails for 2 hours 15 minutes and is back by about 10:45pm. Official from-prices per person start at €99 (Discovery), €135 (Prestige) and €170 (Excellence). There is also an earlier 6pm service of 1 hour 15 minutes, boarding at 5:30pm, from €90. The Viator listing includes live music from two musicians.
- Bateaux Parisiens departs from the tower at 8:30pm and returns at 11pm, with a shorter 6:15pm sailing back by 7:30pm. Its site lists the 8:30pm cruise from €115 and the early cruise from about €99, rising with the service level. The Viator listing includes a live singer.
Dress up rather than down. Bateaux Mouches asks for smart dress in the evening and formal dress for its Prestige and Excellence menus, and it bans flip-flops, sandals, shorts and tank tops on dinner cruises; boarding can be refused. Bateaux Parisiens asks for formal dress on the 8:30pm cruise, with no jeans, trainers, shorts or caps, even though its Viator listing describes the dress code as smart casual. Compare all the boats, including smaller ones, in our Seine dinner cruise guide.
When to book someone else
Vedettes du Pont Neuf is our default for a first cruise. It boards at the Square du Vert-Galant, the tip of the Île de la Cité, which puts you in the historic heart of Paris rather than at the edge of the 7th or 8th. Its one-hour cruises have live commentary in English and French, and it lists adult tickets at €15 online or €17 on site. Departures run daily from 10:30am.

France Tourisme

Vedettes de Paris is the other good alternative near the tower, boarding at Port de Suffren. Its one-hour cruise runs on a fully electric boat with a live guide in English and French, at €21 for adults, or €18 on its website.
Our verdict
For a daytime hour on the river with a live guide, book Vedettes du Pont Neuf. For a cruise that starts or ends at the Eiffel Tower, book Bateaux Parisiens. For a flexible ticket you can use at sunset, book Bateaux Mouches. For a special dinner, pick on the menu and the dress code rather than the name.
